Our Founder Dr. Lipov: Transforming Trauma Through International Collaboration
In April, amidst the bustling streets of Chicago, a profound collaboration unfolded to bring hope and healing to survivors of sexual violence and traumatized military personnel. Coinciding with the 23rd anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Plechysta Yelyzaveta, MD, PhD, a dedicated medical professional from Ukraine, embarked on a transformative journey in the pursuit of pioneering trauma treatment.
Under the guidance of Dr. Eugene Lipov, a leading figure in trauma treatment, Dr. Yelyzaveta trained in a groundbreaking procedure aimed at alleviating the debilitating effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The stellate ganglion block (SGB) therapy, known for its rapid and transformative impact on PTSD symptoms, was the focal point of their collaboration.
Dr. Lipov, himself of Ukrainian descent, saw this collaboration as a deeply personal mission. Born in Ukraine and based in Chicago, he was committed to leveraging his expertise to make a difference in his homeland. By empowering Dr. Yelyzaveta with the skills to administer SGB therapy, they aimed to establish a network of medical professionals capable of delivering critical support to survivors and military personnel in Ukraine.
The urgency of their collaboration was underscored by the harsh reality of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which had weaponized sexual violence and left a devastating impact on countless women. Dr. Yelyzaveta's journey represented hope for Ukrainians grappling with the psychological scars of conflict. Her mission to bring this innovative therapy back to her country was a testament to resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.
The convergence of Dr. Yelyzaveta's journey in Chicago during Sexual Assault Awareness Month served as a powerful reminder of the collective action needed to address the psychological wounds of conflict and violence. Together, through international solidarity and medical innovation, they could pave the way for healing and hope in the lives of survivors worldwide.
